The other night, I had dinner at Jose Antonio Peruvian-Chinese Restaurant in Chatsworth. Yes, you read that correctly, “Peruvian-Chinese”. The LA Daily News food critic titled his review, “When in Peru, do as the Peruvians do - eat Chinese food”. It was delicious. It is a small, quaint restaurant, and the moment we walked in, the staff treated us like long-lost, distant relatives. Fabulous hosts who would really prefer to speak Spanish than English. (In fact, there was little of “English”. I went to the bathroom and there was a sign written in Spanish. I hope I obeyed the rule posted on the sign)
The menu had two sections–the Peruvian page and the Chinese food page. I ordered beef, Rhoda ordered fish, Ruth ordered chicken, and Layla ate decided to have all three. We stuck mostly with the Peruvian dishes, but we’re curious to try the Chinese side next time. We were all satisfied with the dishes. The service is on the slow side, but the staff believe in the “Slow-Service Movement”. I’m not making this up. They believe that meals should be enjoyed and not rushed.
All in all, it was fantastic, and anyone who wants to make the trek out here to the San Fernando Valley and go out to dinner, this is the place to go!
