Shame on Frank Pastore

From time to time, I tune in to hear Frank Pastore on KKLA (99.5 FM) here in Los Angeles. He has a talk radio show from 4pm to 7pm on one of the most popular Christian radio stations in Los Angeles. Though I disagree with (most of) his politics, I appreciate his articulation and it regularly challenges my assertions.

At the final minutes of his show today, he ran a blurb on Kyra Phillips’s embarassing mishap on CNN yesterday. Phillips is an anchor on CNN who forgot to turn off her microphone while CNN ran a live segment of President Bush’s speech. With her microphone on, Phillips said some things about her family that should not be publicized for the world. I am sure Phillips is feeling embarassed by the whole ordeal.

But shame on Pastore for replaying and publicizing this segment, rather than letting it fade. This is pure gossip. And though my standards for secular programming lend itself to this kind of segment, Pastore has a responsibility as an evangelical Christian to not play those games. While those on the left side of the political spectrum may think that his politics are not consistent with the teachings of the gospel, I feel that liberals and conservatives alike should be repulsed by this kind of ‘low-blow’. This is something you expect to read in the tabloids, not on a Christian radio station. Shame on Pastore and KKLA for propagating this gossip. They owe an apology to Ms. Phillips and her family.

I heard the transcription of the CNN recording. I don’t know why they would play it on a Christian radio station. Did he have a point in playing it?

On the brighter side of things, a ton of people know she has a good husband.

Are you trying to pick a fight with the crossing guard of the “Intersection of Faith and Reason”?

I could not agree with you more. Actions speak so much louder than words, I pray that more people who claim to live by “the word” become accountable for their actions.
