I’ve recently joined Facebook. This networking website used to be exclusively available for college students, but has recently opened up its doors to the general public. The average young person today has several opportunities to be connected to people, and Facebook is one way where people can develop a web presence.
While I still believe that nothing beats a face-to-face relationship (not Facebook, not cellphones, not text-messaging nor myspace), these forms of communication have gone from luxuries to somewhat essentials in attempt to communicate with one another. Last Friday, just hours before our InterVarsity Fall Conference, I sent a text message to John asking him if he wants to join us. John and I have not had any face-to-face nor phone nor email communication. This was my invite: A one sentence text message. Within 10 minutes, John responded that he wanted to join us. We connected over the details, and a few hours later, he was at our Fall Conference.
Praise God for (post)modern communication!

Yeah, I agree Eddy. I get a vibe from a lot of Christian types that they are pretty sceptical about postmod comm, particularly things like blogging and web 2.0 type stuff. I’m gonna blog about that soon. Can’t quite figure it out since the benefits are so obvious. I’m guessing there is a major fear about the downside but I’m not always clear what that is. I think some folks are probably just uncomfortable with technology.
