Today finally confirms it for me that Chicago should rightfully lose it’s status as “the windy city” to Northridge, CA. We’ve been pounded by 20-30mph cold winds for the past 7 days, with gusts up to 50mph. These so-called Santa Ana winds (it seems to me that all winds in Los Angeles are called the Santa Anas) have not let up. I’ve never lived in Chicago, but I have no problem stealing that title from them, as I am confident they have nothing on us here!

Except that it was only 25 degrees as a HIGH in Chicago today. Try having that blow around Northridge. Sorry on this one Eddy. Having been to the windy city, I don’t think a lite breeze in the Valley can compare.
“a lite breeze” is a gross understatement! Chicago can win it on the cold, but not on this wind!
Although it is windy in Chicago, as I was there last month, it wasn’t only nicknamed the windy-city for its weather. Combined with it’s close proximity to Lake Michigan ( a naturally windy area) and the man-made wind tunnels created by engineering and architecture of the tall buildings, there is a massive amount of wind forced down into the streets - but there are other reasons. One that I will share with you involves Chicago politics: It was the opinion of many that their politics were “spectator-sports” and that overall, Chicago politicians were long-winded (basically full of it). This was used on many occasions and soon became a stigma to describe Chicagoans.
