I don’t know why, but in the last several years I feel like a “new” debate has come up in some circles regarding the issue of circumcision. For starters, I really don’t care whether parents decide to snip or not, but I am taken aback at how adament and militant the anti people can be in eradicating this “ancient” practice. Not sure if the practice is going to die anytime soon, especially with the conclusion of several studies released today that show that there is a significant decrease in getting HIV among men who are circumcised compared to those who did not get the cut. This post is random (not sure whether I should have filed it under theology or random or both)!

From what I’ve seen the health data seems to support the snip.
Same here — in terms of the data. Also, since it’s still such an important ceremony in certain religions, I don’t see circumcision going by the wayside.
I’m wondering if you should add “Penis” to your list of categories.
For all the “anti-circ” folks out there, especially the slightly-deranged men who so bitterly lament not having a foreskin, I long to tell them off, just so:
“Do you seriously miss your foreskin? How do you have any idea what you’re missing? Most men I’ve known who were circumcised as adults really did not miss that funny bit of flesh. More than one commented that they actually preferred being bare — lasted longer, women liked it better, etc. So you might not be so bad off as you feel you are. It seems absurd to pine after something you never had.
I believe that if we can abort babies at will, a mother is certainly entitled to choose a benign procedure like circumcision for her sons. Hysterical calls for banning circumcision make about as much sense as hysterical calls to ban abortion. Best to decide which side you’re on — choices for the mother (pro-abortion, pro-circ) or choices for the baby (anti-abortion, anti-circ). Anything else would be hypocrisy. And since the anti-circ crowd tend to be throwback granola crunchers, as fervently supportive of abortion as they are opposed to circumcision, we’re talking a LOT of hypocrites.
Really, if you have no children, what concern would it be of yours anyway? And if you do, is it not enough to decide what’s best for your own children, rather than arrogantly deciding for mine as well? Do you feel entitled to judge simply because you have a penis, or is it merely because you feel you have the right to dictate your personal morals to someone else?”
