You and I have talked about this, but I thought I would mention it here. A large component of ending poverty in the US, in my opinion, relates to how healthcare and insurance are handled. That Edwards earned his fortune as a malpractice lawyer suing doctors. The lawsuits were probably valid, but they helped cause the crisis of rising healthcare costs in the US by increasing physicians' insurance rates. I don't see him possessing the urge to change the system that made him rich.

I like that Edwards has put poverty on the political map, but like you, I have strong doubts about his ability to do something about it. I agree that ending poverty will require significant heart change in the general population and that is something that can't really be legislated. I'm all for leaders such as politicians leading heart change, but Edwards hasn't done much in his speeches to prove to me that he can get people involved who are not already involved. That is to say, to address poverty, we need inspiration. At this point, Edwards only seems to be preaching to the choir.
